  • 1851: The New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Co., Western Union’s founding company was established.


  • 1856: Changed its name to The Western Union Telegraph Co., signifying the “union” of the Western lines into one system


  • 1871: Introduced Money Transfer


  • 1981: International Money Transfer


  • 1995: Western Union was acquired by First Data Corporation (TOP 10 CORPORATIONS- FORTUNE 500, November 2003)


  • 2006: Western Union is spun off from FDC and issues IPO in Wall Street
